Biden Affirms Commitment to Campaign, Calls for Democratic Unity to Defeat Trump

President Joe Biden has reiterated his unwavering commitment to his re-election campaign, dispelling any speculation about his potential withdrawal. In a letter addressed to his fellow Democrats on Capitol Hill, Biden emphasized the importance of party unity in the face of the upcoming election against former President Donald Trump.

Biden’s letter, shared on his social media accounts this morning, reflects his resolve to continue his campaign. “Now that you have returned from the July 4th recess, I want you to know that despite all the speculation in the press and elsewhere, I am firmly committed to staying in this race, to running this race to the end, and to beating Donald Trump” Biden wrote.

Acknowledging the conversations he has had with party leaders, elected officials, and Democratic voters, Biden noted the expressed concerns regarding the stakes of the upcoming election. He assured his supporters that he remains aware of his responsibilities and the expectations placed upon him. “I have heard the concerns that people have – their good faith fears and worries about what is at stake in this election. I am not blind to them” Biden said.

Biden highlighted the Democratic nomination process, pointing out that he received over 14 million votes, with 87% of the votes cast across the entire nominating process, securing nearly 3,900 delegates. “This was a process open to anyone who wanted to run. Only three people chose to challenge me. One fared so badly that he left the primaries to run as an independent. Another attacked me for being too old and was soundly defeated. The voters of the Democratic Party have voted. They have chosen me to be the nominee of the party” he emphasized.

In his letter, Biden detailed his administration’s accomplishments, including job creation, economic revitalization, infrastructure rebuilding, healthcare expansion, and efforts to combat climate change. He contrasted these achievements with the policies proposed by Trump and the MAGA Republicans, who he claims are aligned with the wealthy and big corporations.

Biden also criticized the MAGA Republicans’ agenda, accusing them of wanting to repeal the Affordable Care Act, implement tax cuts favoring the rich, and undermine social security and Medicare. “We will never let that happen. It’s trickle-down economics on steroids. We know the way to build the economy is from the middle out and the bottom up, not the top down” Biden asserted.

The President reiterated his stance on protecting American freedoms, particularly in light of the recent Supreme Court decisions and the Republican efforts to overturn Roe v. Wade. “We are protecting the freedoms of Americans. Trump and the MAGA Republicans are taking them away” he stated.

Biden’s call to action concluded with a rallying cry for Democratic unity and resolve. “My fellow Democrats – we have the record, the vision, and the fundamental commitment to America’s freedoms and our Democracy to win. The question of how to move forward has been well-aired for over a week now. And it’s time for it to end. We have one job. And that is to beat Donald Trump” Biden urged.

With 42 days until the Democratic Convention and 119 days to the general election, Biden’s message was clear: unity and clarity of purpose are paramount in the fight to defeat Donald Trump and protect American democracy.
