President Erdoğan to Attend NATO Summit in Washington D.C.

ANKARA – President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is set to visit the United States from July 9-11, 2024, to attend the NATO Heads of State and Government Summit in Washington D.C. This significant gathering coincides with NATO’s 75th anniversary.

The summit will focus on NATO’s efforts in deterrence and defense amidst challenges and risks within the alliance’s geography. Discussions will also address the situation in Ukraine and the support extended to the country. Furthermore, steps taken to combat terrorism, one of the primary threats to the alliance, will be on the agenda.

The visit was announced on the official social media account of the Directorate of Communications with the following statement:

“President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will visit the United States from July 9-11, 2024, to attend the NATO Heads of State and Government Summit in Washington D.C. The summit, coinciding with NATO’s 75th anniversary, will address the alliance’s efforts in deterrence and defense in response to challenges and risks within its geography, as well as the situation in Ukraine and support for the country. Steps taken to combat terrorism, one of the fundamental threats to the alliance, will also be discussed. Leaders from NATO’s Asia-Pacific partners, including Australia, Japan, South Korea, and New Zealand, as well as the President of Ukraine and representatives from the European Union, will participate in relevant sessions. It is expected that President Erdoğan will hold bilateral meetings with some of the participating heads of state and government on the sidelines of the summit.”
