Finland Tests Digital Passport for the First Time!

ISTANBUL (IGFA) – Finland has launched a new pilot program allowing its citizens to travel from the capital, Helsinki, to the United Kingdom by showing their digital identity documents on their smartphones instead of physical passports, marking the first such initiative in the world.

According to a report published by The Economist, the project was tested for the first time in flights operated by Finland’s national airline, Finnair, on August 28th, for routes from Helsinki to London, Edinburgh, and Manchester.

The pilot program, valid for round-trip flights from Helsinki to the United Kingdom with Finnair, is expected to continue until the end of February 2024.
